Environmental Regulations:

We are proud to be the first province in Canada to legislate environmental regulations. To be licensed in the province of Nova Scotia, a mink farmer must be 100% compliant with the Fur Industry Regulations under the Fur Industry Act. This ensures a defendable industry can exist into the future.

In this day and age, environmental concerns are of paramount importance, and choosing fur can be a greener alternative.
• Farmed mink are fed left-overs from our own food production, waste products that would otherwise be dumped in a landfill.
• Synthetic materials remain in landfills for centuries, fur is biodegradable.
• Synthetics used to produce “faux” fur and other materials are obtained from petroleum, a non-renewable resource. The production of these synthetic materials is known to have a detrimental impact on our environment.
• Fur is long-wearing, it is often worn as a “vintage” piece many years later, and even passed down to another generation.
• Manure, feed waste, and old bedding are composted to produce organic fertilizer to replenish the soil.
• Mink fat can be transformed into many different products, including leather protectants, soaps, and cosmetics.
